Mugaku Sogen, invited by Tokimune Hojo from Southern Song (old China) opened here in 1282
as the memorial of the soldier who fell victim by the Mongolian
Invasions. This temple became the prayer place of the Kamakura shogunate, and the Hojo family's
soul place after that. Many worthy buildings are located with the calm precincts of this temple.
This temple is classified by second grade in Kamakura Gozan. * Kamakura Gozan is originate in a system such as the government does ranking management of the temple, and the government makes it promoted to the higher temple by one with appointive power.
